Commemorating the 50th Year of Centre for Sustainable Technologies (IISc) SuDesi Lab (Shreya Upadhya, Hridhik Ranjan Jha, Bysani Sathwik and Monto Mani) commissioned a solar system to power a tailoring unit at Government Urdu High School, Shidlagatta. The 5 kVA solar UPS system nearly powers the entire energy requirement of the tailoring unit. With this intervention, the school’s total electricity bill has reduced by 80% (about Rs. 500 pm from Rs. 2500 pm). This opportunity was facilitated by Gramaantara Trust.

An informal interactive session with Class 9 students on ‘career and future’ was also conducted to provide clarity and direction to students as for their academic and professional journeys. The students expressed their doubts and concerns regarding career opportunities after 10th grade. Students were grouped based on their career aspirations, following which an informal discussion appraised the students on the skills required, responsibilities and commitments, duration of various courses, important entrance examinations, and available scholarship opportunities (useful websites and portals where they could check eligibility criteria).
To enhance competitiveness and build confidence in public communication, interactive activities were conducted between the groups. The groups were also asked to select a product and creatively “market” it. The students were also encouraged to come up with catchy slogans reflecting their ambitions/values.
