Research
 
  • The thrust has been in the area of carrying out basic studies both experimental and modeling of the processes in the reactor for biomass conversion. Expertise in the solid fuel combustion and gasification processes, design of reactors for thermochemical conversion, design of gas cooling and cleaning systems, dual fuelling of diesel engines.
 
 
  • Basic experimental and modelling work on combustion of wood char spheres to determine the mass loss under various reacting environment, like O2,N2, CO2/N2 and H2O/N2 mixtures, with emphasis on predicting the performances of solid fuel combustors and gasifiers.
  • Development of a novel reactor geometry for gasifier of 5, 20 and 100 kW capacities for electricity generation and 1.0 MW capacity for thermal applications. One system of 100 kWe is now installed in Switzerland.
  • Gasifiers and combustors for agricultural residues are being currently developed by gasifying the biomass after pulverisation. A 100 kW system for power generation and a 2.0 MW unit for thermal application, are in the advanced stage of prototype testing.
  • Development of combustion devices for wood and agro residues for domestic and industrial requirements.
  • Development of process for the conversion of rice husk ash from the gasifier to precipitated silica.
  • Technology for removal of hydrogen sulphide from the biogas generated from effluent treatment plants.
  • Low liquid flow rate measuring device; especially for diesel engines.
  • Development of tar and particulate measuring apparatus in producer gas.
